Health Effects Due to Global Warming

As the global temperatures have changed many other things have changed as well. One of those things is disease, as a result of climate change and other environmental factors the amount of diagnosed diseases have gone up. One of the major diseases is asthma. Just in the past "20 years" diagnoses and hospitalizations have increased "30%." That 30% increase is easily related to the pollution increase which causes climate change. One of the relations made between asthma and pollution is the sulfur dioxide in the air. Sulfur dioxide constricts the airway making it even harder for an asthmatic to breathe, it also contributes to global climate change.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD) is another disease directly related to climate change. The rates of COPD have increased steadily along with the rates of pollution. "100,000" people in the U.S alone die from this disease each year. A decrease in pollution would have a direct impact with lessening this disease.

Diseases such as diabetes, heart conditions and cystic fibrosis already dangerous, can be further aggravated by the air pollution that causes global climate change. The climate change we are facing has many negative impacts and has greatly increased the rate of diagnoses of many diseases.

    Awesome picture too.

  2. Also in the past 20 years hospitals and diagnostics have increased in technology and efficiency. This may also account for the number of cases of these diseases. I myself have suffered from asthma in the last couple of years and it has developed so I do believe that pollution is causing these problems but I don't think that is 100% the reason these issues are occurring.

  3. Yes, it's probably not 100% of it but asthma is triggered by pollution in individuals who usually have just mild asthma.

  4. As someone who has traveled frequently, I can absolutely make the comparison between asthma and pollution. Although I do not have asthma, traveling to Guatemala City and Beijing, China, there is clearly a difference in the pollution level and it is much harder to breathe at first. Also, the people of Guatemala City who work in the Guatemala City Dump's number one complaint it of respiratory problems. Just something to think about. Great post Gabby.

  5. That's some cool information, a little scary that that many people are dying and it can all be linked to pollution.

  6. Is there a relationship between cancer and the global climate change? Has the cancer rate increased with say, nuclear power plants?

  7. Yes, that's what I plan for my next blog... nuclear energy and it's health affects :P

  8. This is so bad, in a sense humans are producing most of this so were pretty much killing ourselves. This affects me personally because my mom has diabetes, and I never ever thought of climate change being able to affect her.
